Carmelo Anthony and the Boston Celtics
Carmelo Anthony signed a 5 year $124-million-dollar contract in 2014 to stay with the New York Knicks. With the Knicks not making the playoffs, or even having an above .500 record since 2012-2013, Melo might be regretting his decision, as he is now 32 years old. Within his contract details, it included a rare no trade clause.
On the other hand, the longtime Knicks rival, the Boston Celtics, are on the uproar having made playoffs the last two years under Brad Stevens. With the accusations of Isaiah Thomas, Al Hortford, and Jae Crowder over the past few seasons the Celtics look legitimate this season, as they currently sit 3rd in the Eastern Conference.
Although the Celtics are on the rise, people still doubt them, saying they lack the fire power to make it deep in the playoffs. In recent interviews, Melo has said he is willing to drop the no trade clause if the Knicks are willing to trade him. While the Celtics and Melo have faced dozens of times, he praises the way the team is managed and they way the team plays. With the large number of assets and roll players the Celtics have, they could very well intrigue the Knicks into a deal, as the Knicks currently look and are playing like a high school basketball team, and not even a good one.
Will Melo find his way out of an awful situation, to finish his career on a positive note and possibly a ring? Only time will tell….
