A Look at Some Team's Quarterback Situation for 2017
NFL QB’s: Who Will Be Playing Where?
The Big Game is only a little over a week away, but it is never too early to start thinking about next year. Quarterback is the most important position on the field, and there are plenty of teams out there that could use one. Here we will break down the teams who need a quarterback and will name who I think their best fit is moving forward.
AFC:
New York Jets: The Jets may be just a quarterback away from being a solid football team. It is clear that none of the guys they have are the answer (sorry Fitzy, Bryce, and Geno). This is a team that needs to bring in a young QB that can develop into a franchise leader. Their best option is to go through the draft. My Pick: Deshone Kizer
Cleveland Browns: Oh boy, it’s the Browns. They desperately need a face of the franchise, and should use their first overall pick to get it. RG3 is not the answer, and never has been. Just use your first overall pick Cleveland, just do it. My Pick: Deshaun Watson
Houston Texans: The Houston Texans have the best roster in the NFL that isn’t led by a good quarterback. They have a great receiving core, a hard runner, and a fantastic defense. Their only hole is at quarterback, which happens to be the most important. If they pull the trigger and grab this man: they will win the division and play in the AFC championship for sure.
My Pick: TONY ROMO
Denver Broncos: Trevor Semien is not the long term solution at quarterback. Paxton Lynch might be, and I think they need to find out what they have in him in 2017. Its not that Semien is bad; he just will not win them a Super Bowl. My Pick: Paxton Lynch
Steelers: Is Ben actually going to retire? Absolutely not. Big Ben’s the starter. DON’T GO!! My Pick: Big Ben
NFC
Washington Redskins: The Skins won’t actually let Kirk walk, will they? They screwed up by not signing him before this year, and now they actually have to pony up the cash to keep him in DC. They absolutely need to keep Cousins in Washington, it will be hard to find anyone on the market or in the draft to replace their Pro Bowl signal caller. My Pick: Kirk Cousins
Chicago Bears: Its time for the Bears to move on from Jay Cutler. Actually, it is time for them to move on from EVERYONE. Total reset needed for the Chicago Bears. They need to find themselves a roster, and that starts with a quarterback. If you’re Chicago, do you throw a bunch of picks at New England for Garoppolo? Or do you get your own QB in the draft? The answer is: you’re so far away from an actual NFL roster, you need to keep all your picks and see if you can find a young QB to lead you back from the dead. My Pick: Patrick Mahomes III, Mitch Trubisky, Brad Kaaya
San Francisco 49ers: This is the last team on the list that really needs to look for something different at the quarterback slot for 2017. Colin Kaepernick is not the answer at the position and is a massive distraction off the field. This team is clearly going to need to rebuild: but is in a better position to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo than any other team. Trade for Jimmy and draft a WR, maybe sign Alshon Jeffery? This team could be in business. Or they could go for a total rebuild, keep those draft picks instead of trading them, and draft one of the QB’ the Bears don’t take. My Pick: Jimmy Garoppolo, Mahomes, Trubisky, Kaaya
