The Paul Pierce Retirement Tour : Where is it?
Within recent years whenever a memorable player announces their retirement at the seasons end, everyone including opposing teams, offer those players gifts for their great, heroic, championship careers and are cheered on by fans of all sorts. Players including David “Big Papi” Ortiz, Kobe “The Mamba” Bryant, Derek “The Captain” Jeter. So why’s no one talking about Paul Pierce’s retirement?
With The Truth bringing the first NBA championship in over 20 years to Boston, and being 16th all-time in scoring, along with 19th all-time in steals. Along with those stats, he also adds 10x All-Star apperances, 4x All-NBA honors, 2008 NBA Finals MVP, and even 98-99 All-Rookie honors. why isn’t he receiving any praise? Without a doubt he is a Hall of Fame player and will one day have his number floating high above the parquet of TD Garden, with the 21 other Celtic legends.
As a long time Celtics fan, I watched Pierce tear apart legendary teams throughout the regular season and post season. Amazing teams in the late 2000s such as The Los Angeles Lakers led by the infamous Kobe Bryant, all the way to battling the Cleveland Cavaliers carried by Lebron James. As the Truth aged, the Big 3 of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and himself, still were able to succeed in the playoffs only to lose to the Lebron led Miami Heat multiple times.
With an amazing career that doesn’t come around that often, why isn’t he getting the praise he deserves? As his career ticks closer to the end, with his love for Boston, I could easily see him retiring a Celtic and maybe in the future get a job in the front office. After all he does know what it takes to win.
