SOX SPOTLIGHT: RICK PORCELLO
How about the 2016 Cy Young winner? Yes, Rick Porcello actually won the Cy Young in the American League in 2016. Did he deserve it- I think so- but that doesn't matter; he won it. So how does that contract look now, Haters?
Rick Porcello is the third piece of this Red Sox monster rotation. After struggling mightily for the first five months of his Red Sox career, Rick caught fire in September of 2015 and has not really looked back since. He had a great year last year and looks to continue that in 2017. Lets take a look at the stats:
2016 Season: 33 starts, 22-4, 3.15era/1.01whip, 189K's, 223IP.
Career: 4.20era/1/31whip, 993K's, 1468.1IP.
Looking at these numbers, Porcello's 2016 season looks nothing like the rest of his career. In 2016, Porcello was a full run better than his career, and his WHIP was much better. Can he keep that going? Entering his age 28 season, we'll find out who the real Rick Porcello is.
