Why Super Bowl 51 May be the Sweetest Win Ever
If you ask any player, they would say every Super Bowl win is equally as great. They all feel just as special. For the most part, that would hold true. However, for the Patriots’ players and fans, there is no doubt that this is the sweetest tasting of them all. They have played through a lot of adversity over last year or two that makes this win just a little more special than past championships. Here’s why this win may be the sweetest win for any sports team ever.
Roger Goodell
It is a word that everyone is sick of. Yes, deflategate. It forced Tom Brady to miss the first four games of the 2016-2017 season and was talked about non stop for an excessive amount of time. After originally winning his appeal, Brady would not be so lucky come the 2016 start (yes, over a full season after Deflategate was originally leaked). The Judge ruled that Roger Goodell had the power to suspend any player if he felt it necessary. Of course, Goodell abused his power and suspended the future hall of famer for the first quarter of the season off of no hard evidence that he had actually intentionally tampered with footballs. This alone was enough to motivate the team and their fans. Many people believe what Roger did was nothing more than a witch hunt and that the suspension
would make people forget about the fact that he originally lost the case in court. Those people would probably be correct. The process was drawn out over 2 seasons. The Patriots were portrayed as cheaters and classless throughout the nation. Having to deal with that for two seasons makes this win so much tastier for both the players and the fans. Especially after Goodell skipped out on all of the Pats’ playoff games while hitting two Falcons’ games. The guy has not been to Gillette stadium since the deflategate game and we suggest it stay that way. I mean come on Roger, it could not be any more obvious that he is blatantly avoiding Gillette. So now, it is time for New England to give it right back to Goodell and the rest of the country and enjoy this one more than ever.
The Comeback
Everyone knows the Patriots made the largest comeback in Super Bowl history. They came back from down 25 at the half to beat the Atlanta Falcons. You can never count them out of any game no matter the situation. This is a team that will always put up a fight. Trailing 28-3 at the half, Patriot fans were taking a lot of heat from every other fan base in the country, through social media. However like always, fans of the Brady led team never broke. Patriot fans were able to throw it right back at anyone that had doubted them (sounds familiar). People love to try and discredit them or bring them down but the recurring theme is that New Englanders are always the ones that come away with the win and get to enjoy the last laugh. The comeback definitely made the win feel much better for fans and players when it was finally completed.
Brady Passes Montana
Even though Tom Brady owns virtually every postseason record possible, people still like to say Joe Montana is the greatest quarterback ever. However the debate is over. With 5 rings and 7 total Super Bowl appearances, Brady sits alone at the top of the greatest ever chart. How can you argue
with his top 3 all time regular season stats and his easily greatest of all time post season resume? You simply can’t. By the time he hangs them up, he could own almost every regular season record along with literally every post season record. No longer will Patriot fans have to listen to invalid arguments about Brady not being the best quarterback ever.
Patriots vs The World
According to a poll taken by Public Policy Polling, only 27% of people were rooting for the Patriots to take home the Super Bowl 51 trophy. When people say it is the Patriots against the world, they literally mean that. No one ever wants them to win, which makes it that much nicer for the fans when they do win (which is often).
Rob Gronkowski
The Patriots were also able to go 14-2 and win Super Bowl 51 without their top receiving threat, Rob Gronkowski. As if the season as a whole and the historic Super Bowl comeback were not impressive enough, this is just the icing on the cake.
